Oral health care right from the cradle
While you might not think it’s necessary to book an appointment until you child has a full set of teeth (usually at around 3 years of age), the earlier your child visits the dentist the better. With Camp Hill Dental you can expect your first visit with your baby to include possible discussions about:
How to deal with teething.
- Teeth cleaning for children – you should start as soon as the first tooth erupts, using a soft children’s brush for 2 mins per day at morning and night, with no toothpaste until 18 months of age (while your child lies on your lap or on a bed). Children can brush their teeth effectively when they can write their name (at about 8 to 10 years of age).
- Flossing – yes, it is necessary and at a frequency of at least once per day (we can show you the correct technique).
- Bite (how teeth come together).
- Adverse habits, such as thumb sucking.
- The risk of decay and how to prevent it.
Child dental benefits scheme
We have seen a lot of families reap the rewards of the Child Dental Benefits Scheme. It is a great initiative provided by the Australian government which helps kids get preventative dental treatments and help their caregivers manage dental problems early on – before irreversible damage to teeth and even tooth loss. Eligible children can receive over $1000 over a 2 year period to spend on eligible dental services. More conditions can be found on the Department of Human Services website.
To find out if your children are eligible, or to check where you stand with the limitations of the benefit, call our reception at Camp Hill Dental now with your medicare number at the ready. It will normally only take a few minutes for a team member to check. We strongly recommend booking in your child’s checkup, otherwise, if the dental scheme ends, all of your benefits will be lost.
